Bad news from the coffee sector as production is projected to hit new lows in the coming days

31st January, 2018

Bad news from the coffee sector as production is projected to hit new lows in the coming days. The drop is largely blamed on the high cost of production and labor coupled with cartels that have continued to oppress the farmers. The country’s coffee production has dropped from 130m tonnes annually to a paltry 4m tonnes. According to the council of governors, the weak regulatory framework in the country is to blame for the current crisis whose potential losses is 300m tonnes annually. This emerged at the end of a two day retreat for governors from coffee growing counties, government officers and members of the coffee task force.
