How the people of Kitui West constituency have been voting since 1997

16th January, 2018

Two candidates in the Wiper race to replace former member of parliament for Kitui West, the late Francis Nyenze, have cast their votes in a nomination excercise that has been criticised  for the manner in which it is being conducted. Nyenze's widow Edith Veth is battling it out with Nairobi businessman Maluki Kitili who is the son of former minister Nyiva Mwendwa. Vethi has decried lack of an official IEBC register in identifying voters. So far those who have turned up are being listed in a manually generated regiter using their national identity  and voting cards. The by-election is slated for march 26th this year. Our political reporter Murimi Mwangi who has been camping in Kitui West and now joins us live with the developments from the primaries.
