CheckPoint: Health workers now planning a strike after the government failed to agree to their terms

The country is starring at a crisis in the public health sector after the government failed to avert a planned strike by doctors and nurses despite a high level meeting at Afya House. Treasury and ministry of health officials are said to have met over the strike even as doctor’s union officials denied being invited to the meeting. Doctors and nurses are now set to down their tools in a few hours even after the employment and labour relations court suspended the planned industrial action.
