KTN Prime: Olx sets up centers to collect farmers goods and bridge the gap online, 16/11/16

An online commerce platform is bridging the digital divide for farmers in the food basket areas of Kenya by creating physical collection points for collection of goods for customers in remote places. The Olx platform has set up farm inputs centers to help farmers easily access inputs and increase yields for their produce across various regions. Dubbed Kilimo smart Olx centers, these centers will see farmers who have placed orders for various inputs through Olx collect them from these centers. They will also enable farmers get other services such as liming and soil testing. Access to online shops helps eliminate middlemen and is enabling farmers find cheaper prices for their inputs and achieve better margins. The first two centers have been rolled out in Nakuru and Nyandarua. Plans are underway to roll out more centers across other regions. Farmers who had a challenge accessing fertilizers can now use the platform to order farm inputs and have them collected at the Kilimo smart cente
