About 1000 athletes are expected to participate in the 2016 Afrika Mashariki half marathon which will be held in Mombasa on the 11^th of November. The marathon which will be held at the Mama Ngina drive, a day before Kenya marks Jamhuri day is aimed at creating awareness about the east African community integration, fostering cohesion amongst citizens and promoting domestic tourism. The winner of the 21 km race will walk away with 60000 shillings. The inaugural Afrika Mashariki half marathon was held in 2015 in Kampala Uganda.
