Friday Briefing: Flower farm workers stand to get a pay rise after Atwoli intervened

21st October, 2016

Agriculture employees will receive a 25% salary increase following the signing of a collective bargaining agreement or CBA between the central organization of trade unions and agriculture employers association covering 2015 and 2016. More than 60,000 employees especially those in formal jobs in the high value horticulture and flower industries will benefit from the plan. The sectors set a benchmark for the rest of the agricultural sector meaning that most workers should begin to feel the impact soon. Central organization of trade unions secretary General Francis Atwoli has said that the floriculture sector which has been facing ups and downs has been hit by high electricity rates and high taxation but was showing signs of resilience.
