The current political leadership in north eastern Kenya is sitting on the edge as it awaits the verdict of powerful clan elders to determine whether they should seek re-election or go home. Majority leader of the national assembly Aden Duale says he supports the so called ‘negotiated democracy’ approach in nominating leaders to political office. However, Mandera governor Ali Roba and his Wajir counterpart Ahmed Abdullahi are opposed to the proposed rotational leadership and argue re-election should be based on performance.
