Weekend @ One: Construction of SGR in Narok South constituency stopped, 9/10/2016

The construction of standard gauge railway in Narok has been stopped until talks between the National Lands Commission and the Maasai community is held. Speaking during the issuance of over 2,900 title deeds in Suswa, Narok east constituency, the chairman of the lands commission Mohammed Swazuri said the talks must be held to iron out any sticky issues before the project commences in the area. The announcement was made a few weeks after residents of Duka Moja held demos to oppose the construction of SGR. Cabinet secretary for lands prof. Jacob Kaimenyi emphasized the significance of locals having title deeds.
