Mombasa Terror suspects' case gets postponed due to one being deaf

For the second time in as many days, the trial of the three terror suspects in Mombasa failed to start because one of the suspects claim to be deaf and cannot communicate using sign language. One of the suspects also claims to be partially deaf and can only hear if talked to loudly. The court has now ordered that a psychiatrist see all the suspects and the two with hearing impairment be examined further by an ear expert to determine their levels of impairment. The medical reports should be submitted to court within the next five days. Even though the court provided a sign language interpreter and a Somali translator, only one of the suspects could talk. Resident magistrate Emmanuel Mutunga also ordered that the three be remanded in police custody for five days. The case has also been shifted from Mombasa law courts to Shanzu law courts due to security concerns.
