The seventh edition of the Mwea classic marathon was officially launched on Thursday with organizers hoping that this year’s event will attract more than 1500 participants. The marathon which was started in 2009 with the aim of fostering education in Mwea will be held on 17th of September at the Wang’uru stadium instead of Mwea secondary school so as to attract more participants. This year’s edition will consist of three categories namely, the 5 km fun race, the 10 km race and the half marathon. Over the years, Mwea classic marathon has produced some of the biggest names in Kenya including former world indoor champion in 3000m Hellen Obiri.
