Residents of Mpuri village in Imenti North treated themselves to a rare delicacy of elephant meat

28th June, 2016

Residents of Mpuri village in Imenti North sub-county of Meru County treated themselves to a rare delicacy of elephant meat, after an elephant that had gone astray was killed at a farm. The jumbo had killed one of the residents during its rampage before it was shot dead. Officers from the Kenya Wildlife Service and Administration Police had a hard time controlling the crowd armed with pangas, axes and powersaws to try and cut out a piece of the jumbo. A decision to burn the dead elephant did not stop them either.
