Nairobi’s Kibera residents today sought to distance themselves from perceptions that the area is a hub of violence. There was a feel good mood as residents held a peace rally organized by one of the largest grassroots organizations in Kibera and Mathare slums known as shining hope for communities, Shofco. The organisation aims at eradicating poverty in these areas and empowering women and girls through providing an education. The event also included a Shofco boxing tournament which involved children and teenage youth.
