Central Bank of Kenya governor Njuguna Ndung’u retires
3rd March, 2015
Today marks the end of an era as Central Bank governor Njuguna Ndung’u hangs up his gloves and bows out of CBK. Ndun’gu has been CBK governor for the last 8 years, and is retiring after the expiry of his second term in office. A student of economics, Ndung’u has received acclamation for increasing financial inclusion, thanks primarily to the largely successful experiment with mobile money and the introduction of agency banking that saw Kenyans get easy access to the formal banking system.
