George Maringa's Bio
George Maringa is an Anchor / Reporter at KTN News based in Nairobi, Kenya.
Previously, he worked as the network's first ever Reporter based in Meru County for 3 years, where he told stories from among other counties; Embu, Tharaka Nithi, Meru, Isiolo, Lamu and Marsabit. He joined the Standard Group PLC as an intern in 2017.
Mr. Maringa is ardent in protecting and defending public interests, peace and human rights especially for the minority groups and less fortunate in society. This is evidenced by lots of his work and mostly his reporting on the above issues among others including, reporting on the Ethiopian Refugee crisis in the North Eastern border town of Kenya, Moyale. His specific stint at the border saw a host of humanitarian agencies (UNHCR and The Red Cross) respond to the crisis.
In his capacity as a dedicated media practitioner, Maringa extensively reports and researches on local, regional and international stories. He has also filed stories from other countries including Somalia and Finland.
Before joining KTN News, he worked for the African Virtual University (AVU) in various capacities within the Educational Technology and Learning Resources (ET&LR) Unit. The unit coordinated various Open Distance and eLearning activities of the Multinational Project Phase II.
Maringa is a graduate of the Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) where he pursued an undergraduate degree in Mass Communication, with a specialization in Broadcast Journalism. He is also an Alumnus / Fellow of Finland's Foreign Correspondents' Programme.
Maringa’s mastery of English and Kiswahili is exceptional as he is bilingual in the newsroom, and is also conversational in French.
