Debate on the need to re-introduce caning in schools revived after increased school unrest

7th December, 2021

The unending school fires and wanton destruction of school property by unruly students have once again revived talk on the need to reintroduce caning in schools.

Education Cabinet Secretary, prof. George Magoha and his interior counterpart, Dr. Fred Matiang’i, say handling learners with soft gloves has spoilt them.

Meanwhile, school principals now want national exams to be postponed by at least two months to give stressed candidates enough time to cool of the pressure.

Kenya secondary schools Heads Association National Chair, Kahi Indimuli, says whatever is happening in schools is extremely strange and completely out of the ordinary.
