The chairperson of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission Wafula Chebukati wants parliament to prioritize debate and passage of the ‘Election Campaign Financing Amendment Bill 2020 to allow the commission set the maximum amount politicians will spent on the August 2022 General Election. Governance experts say operationalization of the law would curb misuse of state resources, ensure transparency and a level playing field for all candidates in the polls.
