Cushion for Kenyans: MPs move to reduce basic food prices, they plan to Zero-rate food inputs

22nd June, 2021

Kenyans can breathe a sigh of relief after members of the national assembly proposed to zero-rate the inputs on maize flour and wheat flour which will see the prices of the precious commodity including bread go down. While debating the finance bill 2021, the legislators also proposed to remove the 15% excise duty that had been proposed by the ministry of finance on motorcycles commonly referred to as bodaboda’s. However, it was not so rosy for the betting companies after MPs proposed to increase the taxes on winnings up from the proposed 20%to 35%. According to the legislators, this will discourage the betting habit in the country that continues to grow day by day.
