The price of a loaf of bread is set to go up by nearly 10 shillings if a proposal to introduce a 16% value-added tax to the commodity sails through. The proposed tax measure is in the finance bill, 2021, and seeks to raise much-needed revenue for the government by targeting basic commodities.
