Leaders from Kericho & Kisumu argue over the control of revenue & trade fees from traders in Sondu

A war of words erupted between leaders from Kericho and Kisumu counties over the control of revenue and trade fees from traders in Sondu town. The issue reared its ugly head at the swearing-in ceremony of Kericho Deputy Governor Lilly Ng'ok in Kericho town yesterday. Kapsoit ward representative Paul Chirchir was the first to throw down the gauntlet during the ceremony which was attended by Kisumu deputy governor Mathews Owili. The remote Sondu trading center which is Soin/Sigowet constituency is located at the border of the two counties. Dominic Rono, the Speaker of the County Assembly also decried the encroachment and the harassment of the business community at the trading center by Governor Anyang Nyongo’s administration. Kisumu deputy governor Mathews Owili who was present during the event described the tussle as a "Little misunderstanding in Sondu" Governor Chepkwony told his Kisumu counterpart to halt the collection of revenue in the town until the matter is resolved.
