Several Motor vehicles were impounded on Wednesday along Embu- Meru road for flouting covid 19 regulations and other traffic rules. The operation which was conducted by National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) in conjunction with police from Embu also netted vehicles breaking traffic rules. While overseeing the operation, Samuel Gitau, Deputy Subcounty Police commander, Embu West said many public service vehicles impounded were due to flouting covid 19 regulations. Gitau further said Lorries were impounded for lack of annual inspection certificates indicating that they have not been subjected to the annual inspection as required by traffic rules. According to the commander, other vehicles were found tampered with speed governors had number plates removed by NTSA officers before they were taken to Embu police station. The officer said the drivers of the impounded vehicles will immediately be taken to court and prosecuted for the various traffic offenses committed. The Deputy Subcounty Commander said Boda Boda operators were not spared as many motorbikes were also impounded for contravening various traffic rules. Gitua said the operation was aimed at enforcing the covid 19 regulations and also conducting the normal road inspection for road unworthy vehicles. He has urged the members of the public to ensure they observe the covid 19 protocols while traveling. He has also challenged the drivers and vehicle owners to ensure their vehicles have sanitizers and they carry the right number of passengers according to covid 19 regulations. He further noted that strict observance of the covid 19 regulations during the third wave will contribute much to minimizing the rising infections. Gitua said the ongoing operation will continue at various points until sanity is restored on the roads.
