“We have really become Fish eaters thus we have a deficit of 350,000 metric tons in a year and I have the target of a business operator from Migori has of producing 300,000 metric tons by 2022 and I would wish more of our people getting into this. I see my officers giving import permits for fish from China and I say we need to have Fish for our people”, Mungai revealed. He added the through Aquaculture Business Development Programme (ABDP) will help in meeting these targets as aquaculture is the way to go, this is because the capture fisheries have been going down due to climate change and increased fishing efforts. “The country needs to change to Fish farming by turning to aquaculture as this will help in producing more Fish in the country”, Mungai said. In his sediments ABDP coordinator, Sammy Macharia said that since the rolling of the project in 2018 they have trained extension officers in Fish farming and stocked dams in across 15 counties. He added that the country will host the global tour stop in September where all aquaculture interests globally and about 5 counties will host the participants and they will open registration in May. The duo spoke when they met over 300 delegates drawn from over 15 counties as they launched the aquaculture handbook.
