Uhuru Rejects Ruto Claims He Is Funding Opposition, Says He Is Done With Active Politics

24th August, 2026

Former President Uhuru Kenyatta has responded to President William Ruto’s claims that he is sponsoring the opposition against his administration.

Kenyatta dismissed the allegations, saying he has no interest in returning to active politics and is content with the ten years he served as Kenya’s Head of State.

The retired president was speaking during the 23rd anniversary of the death of former Vice President Michael Kijana Wamalwa, held at the Wamalwa Kijana Memorial Home in Kitale, Trans Nzoia County.

Kenyatta was accompanied by leaders from the United Opposition during the commemorative event.

His remarks come amid heightened political activity and growing realignments ahead of the 2027 General Election.
