Kindiki - Mudavadi mix up?: Kindiki absent again as Mudavadi takes centre stage at State House

7th August, 2026

Deputy President Prof. Kithure Kindiki has continued to miss a series of high-profile engagements hosted by President William Ruto at State House, fueling political speculation over his role within the administration.

Since Monday, President Ruto has met delegations from the Quakers Church, Muslim leaders and private security guards. In each of these meetings, Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi has taken a prominent role traditionally associated with the Deputy President.

At the same time, Kindiki has been representing President Ruto at official engagements in Tanzania and Uganda—assignments that have raised questions, given that Mudavadi also serves as the Cabinet Secretary for Foreign and Diaspora Affairs.

The contrasting roles have sparked debate among political observers over whether the changes reflect routine government coordination, the President's constitutional prerogative in assigning duties, or a broader political strategy ahead of the 2027 General Election.

While no official explanation has been given regarding the recent distribution of responsibilities, the developments have intensified public interest in the evolving dynamics within the Kenya Kwanza administration.
