A section of MPs slam budget over unequal regional allocation of funds

12th June, 2026

A section of Members of Parliament has criticized Treasury Cabinet Secretary John Mbadi over what they describe as unequal allocation of development funds in the 2026/27 national budget.

Speaking after the budget presentation, Wajir North MP Saney Ibrahim Abdi accused the government of sidelining parts of Northern Kenya in the distribution of resources, warning that residents of the region would not support the Kenya Kwanza administration without seeing tangible development benefits.

The legislators argued that equitable distribution of funds is critical to addressing long-standing infrastructure and service delivery challenges in marginalized areas.

At the same time, several lawmakers raised concerns over the government's continued reliance on borrowing to finance its budget, warning that the growing debt burden could place additional pressure on taxpayers and future generations.

The MPs called on the National Treasury to ensure fairness in resource allocation and adopt sustainable fiscal measures that promote development while safeguarding the country's economic stability.
