Officer filmed allegedly shooting Multimedia University students

11th June, 2026

Two Multimedia University students who were allegedly shot by police during Monday’s protests may be forced to live with bullets lodged in their bodies after doctors at Kenyatta National Hospital warned that surgery to remove them could be life-threatening.

The development comes as the police officer captured on video allegedly firing live rounds at students remains at large, with the Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) yet to issue a statement on the incident.

Human rights activists have intensified calls for accountability, with Vocal Africa Executive Director Hussein Khalid demanding the immediate arrest and prosecution of the officers involved. Khalid accused police of using excessive force against unarmed students during the demonstrations, raising fresh concerns over police conduct and the protection of protesters' rights.

The shooting has sparked public outrage and renewed demands for swift investigations and justice for the injured students.
