Former Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr. Fred Matiang’i has urged the Kenya Kwanza government to listen to the voices of young Kenyans taking part in peaceful demonstrations, warning that using force risks plunging the country into a dangerous path. In a statement marking the one-year anniversary of the deadly June 25, 2024 protests, Matiang’i expressed solidarity with Gen Z protesters, calling for restraint from security forces and urging them not to turn weapons on citizens. He said the protests reflect deep frustrations over economic injustice, poor governance, and lack of public trust, and called for meaningful dialogue between leaders and the youth to address the root causes of unrest.
