Fresh row brewing over the placement of government sponsored students into private universities

9th October, 2022

Fresh row is brewing over the placement of government sponsored students into private universities, with university lecturers demanding that the programme be stopped forthwith and the government redirects the money to Public Universities, which are currently struggling financially. University Academic Staff Union, UASU, says the programme initiated about six years ago by former President Uhuru Kenyatta, should be discontinued since it does not make economic sense. Meanwhile, the union now wants Egerton University to revert to 100% salary payment to its staff in the next seven days, failure to which UASU national office will lead a strike at the university.
