Gold at Last: Korir wins Kenya's first gold in Tokyo as Rotich clinches silver in men's 800m

4th August, 2021

Kenya finally has a reason to smile after bagging her first gold in the ongoing Tokyo Olympics. Emmanuel korir beat a competitive crowd to cut the tape in 1 minute and 45.06 seconds to win the men’s 800 meters race as he led compatriot Ferguson Rotich who bagged silver. Korir’s win was symbolic as he appeared to have taken the baton from another 800 meter great David Rudisha who won gold in 2012 in London and 2016 in Rio.
