CJ Koome tells Uhuru to appoint those left out in JSC list; senior lawyers divided over her stand

6th June, 2021

A statement by newly appointed Chief Justice Martha Koome asking President Uhuru Kenyatta to appoint the other judges and magistrates omitted from the list presented by the judicial service commission is on focus. Senior lawyers are divided on the stance that lady justice should have taken in view of fresh attacks from the Executive. While some are adamant that all the 40 judges should have been appointed by the President, others feel that the CJ was right to allow the 34 to be sworn in to ease the backlog of cases facing the Judiciary.
