Parties for Hire: It's a season for mushrooming of parties with the motivating factor being cash

Since the advent of political pluralism, the country has witnessed mushrooming of political parties just before elections. The aim is to offer a lifeline to the many politicians who lose during their party nominations. Many parties are used during the elections and thereafter, the same parties die a natural death. Ahead of 2022, the registrar of political parties Anne Nderitu says she has already received over 1,000 applications for registration of new parties. And just to rein in on the commercialization of political parties, a raft of measures are now being considered to streamline the sector.
