World 1500m champion Timothy Cheruiyot has been nominated for the world athletics male athlete of the year award. Cheruiyot ran a world leading time of 3 minutes 28.45 seconds, he was further undefeated in three 1500m races. Cheruiyot will battle it out with 9 other nominees including Ugandan Joshua Cheptegei who broke the 5000m and 10000m records and  Mondo Duplantis from Sweden who broke the world record in the pole vault twice and produced the highest outdoor vault of all time.
