Agriculture cabinet secretary Mwangi Kiunjuri was today taken to task to explain how more than 4.5 million bags of maize were imported into the country last year.
An MPs' probe team was told that the government had only approved the importation of 6 million bags but more than 10 million bags were imported during that duty-free window. This happening at the time when farmers were queueing to deliver maize to National Cereals and Produce Board depots where many of them were turned away.
