KTN Prime: Twaweza East Africa's research report indicates that Kenyans fear for their lives

17th November, 2016

In a new report released today by research firm Twaweza east Africa, 70% of Kenyans would like the Kenya defense forces to withdraw from Somalia where they are battling the Al Shabaab terror group. Although 7 out of every 10 people KDF troops back home, only 2% think that the move will help to counter the appeal of radical groups. More than half of the respondents prefer that the KDF troops be deployed at border points to prevent entry by militants. About 26% say KDF should remain in Somalia. The research carried out between august and September this year, indicated that the main reason Kenyans join the Al Shabaab was because of lack of employment. The survey involved 1,800 respondents contacted through mobile phones.
