Monday Night News: President Uhuru commutes all death sentences to life imprisonment, 24th October 2

The act by President Uhuru Kenyatta to commute all death sentences to life imprisonment. This now means that we do not have convicts facing the death sentence in Kenya. The move affects 2,747 death row convicts who were waiting to face the hang man. President Kenyatta signed the documents at state house earlier today. 2,655 death row convicts were men while 92 female. The president at the same time invoked the power of mercy to pardon 102 long term serving convicts. a statement from state house says the 102 convicts were released after a thorough vetting by the power of mercy advisory committee. The constitution allows the president to grant pardon to reformed and rehabilitated criminals. Present during the signing of the documents were Ag Githu Muigai, interior CS Joseph Nkaiserry, the power of mercy advisory committee secretary Michael Kagika and prisons boss Isaiah Osugo
