The politics of party defections is not new in Kenya. In 1966, the independence party KANU faced a headache similar to what the opposition coalition cord is going through today after 29 KANU leaders decamped enmasse to the Kenya people’s union. Tonight on spotlight 2017, our reporter Chris Thairu revisits the 1966 defections and compares the political dynamics of the time, with the present predicament of cord that recently lost over 30 elected leaders to the jubilee party.
