Farmers count loses as strange maize disease hits plantations

There is fear of a poor maize harvest this year after a strange maize disease affected the crop in parts of Elgeyo Marakwet County. Several farmers are counting loses after their maize farms were infested by smut heads, a disease that discolors maize at the flowering stage. According to the county officials, the infected farms must be destroyed immediately to stop further spread of the disease.
