Parliament agree to form a 14 member team to address the IEBC Debacle
30th June, 2016
Majority leaders in both the kenya national assembly and the senate finally tabled a motion that seeks to form a joint select committee to unlock the stalemate over the electoral commission. The leaders tabled the motion with the names of 14 members that are expected to serve in the committee.
The name of Prof. Hellen Sambili was replaced by that of Kakamega senator Bonny Khalwale, after she declined the nomination. The motion will be debated in both houses on tuesday next week so that the committee can start its duties.
The committee will have 30 days to consult with the relevant authorities as well as the public before they come up with the necessary amendments to either the IEBC act or the constitution.
