Judge Philip Tunoi summoned by Keiyo elders over bribery allegations
28th January, 2016
Kenya’s Kalenjin council of elders, Keiyo chapter now wants the judiciary to suspend the team investigating bribery allegations involving Supreme Court judge Philip Tunoi. The elders say this will pave way for a traditional oathing-cum-cursing ceremony to determine who between justice Tunoi and his accuser Geoffrey Kiplagat is telling the truth. The elders led by Joseph Cherono say the traditional ceremony only to be performed by grey-haired and senior members of the community will unearth the truth because they do not have faith on the bribery probe team constituted by judicial service commission. The cursing ceremony known as muuma is a blood-chilling traditional ceremony meant to solve disputes and is believed to have dire consequences including death and madness on those perpetrating impunity or lies.
