20th November, 2015
Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta has directed Attorney General Githu Muigai and head of public service Joseph Kinyua to operationalize the asset recovery department at the state law office, so that it can recovery monies corruptly acquired by individuals. Speaking today during a breifing on the findings from an anti-corruption task force, Uhuru warned that anti-corruption agencies shall be judged on the number of cases they successfully prosecute and what they recover from suspects. The task force has recommended to the president that the relationship between the anti-corruption commission and the director of public prosecutions should be clarified, and that all corruption cases should be handled at the high court instead of magistrate courts.
