Kenya’s opposition leader Raila Odinga wants county assemblies allowed to use local languages

Kenya’s opposition leader Raila Odinga has triggered an intense debate with his suggestion that some of the 47 county assemblies in Kenya should be allowed to hold their debates in local languages. Raila suggested that this would reaffirm the importance of local languages and make debates richer. But some Kenyans feel this would actually diminish the desire of Kenyan children to learn official and foreign languages.
