The chaos in the sugar sub sector in Kenya has been ongoing for years. It started even long before the common market for east and southern Africa, COMESA, initiated import quotas to protect kenyan sugar from cheap imports. More than ten years since the comesa safeguards were first introduced, the sugar industry is still struggling and the future looks bleak.
