Two die,18 narrowly escape in Kakamega as house collapses

4th February, 2015

Two construction workers died, four were badly hurt and eighteen others narrowly escaped death in Milimani Estate, Kakamega. The workers were digging a foundation for a new building when the adjacent unsecured soil walls caved in on them. According to the construction workers, part of the house on site was demolished to offset the construction of a new storeyed hotel. N.E.M.A. officials said the soil could not sustain the construction. The owner of the building wasn’t on site when the tragedy occurred. The foreman and contractor could not be reached for comment.
