In the last week, social media sites have been inundated with messages of nationalism and peace. Those who did not attend the rally at Uhuru Park, could comfortably follow minute by minute updates of the events on their new media feeds. But back in 1990, the luxury of citizen reporting did not exist. The journalist was the sole source of information, and the journalist had to be everywhere as it happened. This is how Kathleen Openda, a veteran journalist who worked with KTN, described the events of the first Saba Saba day in 1990. She spoke to KTN about her experience covering what became a historical event and begins by explaining how she felt the day the violence broke out.
