Political Activist, Moses Kuria arraigned in court over hate speech

Activist and Gatundu south TNA aspirant Moses Kuria was charged in a Nairobi court with hate speech today. He appeared in the Nairobi chief magistrate's court where he denied the charges and was released on a sh2 million cash bail and a sh5 million bond. The hearing of the case has now been fixed for September 2nd. Kuria is charged with incitement, hate speech and causing ethnic contempt in Facebook messages allegedly posted on May 16th. LSK had said the Facebook posts were intended to incite the public to violence against a specific community. This comes just a day after Kuria won the national alliance party’s nomination to contest the Gatundu south parliamentary by-election set for august 7th. A section of leaders from the region have however come out to protest against his win and the manner in which the party conducted the nominations. The leaders say the process was openly manipulated and want the nomination revoked.
