Prison department appeals for life sentence inmates to be set free to help decongest penal

The prison department is now proposing that life sentence inmates who have served over twenty years be set free to help decongest penal institutions. According to the officer in charge of Naivasha g.k prison that is host to over 1,200 inmates on life sentence the number of inmates on life sentence in the country is overstretching prison facilities. He further said that education programme introduced in the prison had turned out to be a tool for reforming inmates with majority of them already with life skills that can sustain them outside prison. The management of the Naivasha gk prison urged officials from the county government of Nakuru who toured the facility to assist construct a baby care center to cater for inmates who have children in the facility.
