Crime and unemployment

One of the biggest threats to the stability of any nation is mass unemployment, and Kenya is currently in the throes of this phenomenon. Joblessness, especially among the youth is quickly becoming the match that sets alight criminality in many of these men and women. We spoke to one such man, a university graduate, who is also a carjacker. In part of a series of reports by our sister newspaper, the standard, this man reveals what many may already have suspected; that criminals driven into crime by unemployment are much smarter, and far more desperate than had been imagined.
