World Desertification Day
17th June, 2013
Between the year 2008 and 2011 Kenya lost 970 billion shillings in famine situations in the country. This loss is attributed to lack of preparedness and efficient drought early warning systems. And even as the world marks the worlds desertification day, Kenya could be sinking into a deeper crisis; the National Environmental Management Authority is on record warning that Kenya is slowly turning into a desert as the country is losing vegetation cover at an alarming rate.
