Kenya hit by power nationwide blackout

Power distributor, Kenya Power, said a 'technical hitch' was to blame for the situation. The company said two transmission lines tripped, while they were carrying 400 mw of electricity, resulting in a national power outage. The company is yet to explain what caused the trip. In a statement sent to newsrooms, Kenya Power said engineers had started feeding electricity from neighbouring Uganda to the national grid and Western Kenya was the first region to be re-lit. The power distributor then sent a second statement claiming that by 6pm, electricity supply to 90 percent of the country had been restored.. Businesses relying heavily on power supply were forced to close early as operations ground to a halt. Hospitals across the country were also struggling to work with limited power supplies from mobile generators.
