UNFPA donates to the floods victims
12th April, 2013
As efforts to avert the looming flood crisis continue, fears are mounting over disease outbreaks. However kenya red cross which has been at the fore of the distribution of relief aid to flood victims today received a major boost with the united nations population fund, donating various kits worth 20 million shillings. Traditionally humanitarian response has meant giving food, water and tents but unfpa expanded its assistance today to include sexual reproductive health kits. The kenya red cross says emergency situations aggravate sexual health issues such as unskilled child deliveries, sexual and gender based violence among others. The donations which included reproductive health kit, rape treatment, condoms, safe delivery kits, sti treatment and blood transfusion kits will be used to provide assistance for the affected populations. The donation comes a day after the governments announced that it had started to distribute relief food to affected areas around the country.
