23rd June, 2025
Gen Z activists in Kisumu are set to stage a peaceful demonstration and candlelight vigil on June 25, 2025, to protest police brutality and commemorate the lives lost during last year’s anti-Finance Bill protests. The procession, which has been formally notified to the Central Police Station, will include flower-laying and the lighting of candles in memory of more than 60 young Kenyans reportedly killed by police across the country during the 2024 demonstrations. Organizers have emphasized the non-violent nature of the event, aligning with a broader national movement demanding accountability and justice. Police have pledged to facilitate the peaceful march and ensure the safety of all participants.
